Patrons and devotion: the University of Sydney's Hours of Anne la Routye

The University of Sydney Library
Patrons and devotion is a study of the contents, artist and owners of the University of Sydney Library's fifteenth-century French Book of Hours, the Hours of Anne la Routye. According to Dr Peter Rolfe Monks, the codex was prepared in two campaigns, the first in 1460 and the second in 1515 when it passed into the hands of Anne, a religious sister of the Hotel-Dieu, the Hospital in Paris under the control of the Canons of Notre Dame. Monks provides commentaries for each miniature, and believes that the artwork of the first campaign can be attributed to a close associate of the atelier of the Rolin Master. He concludes that no other Horae associated with the Hotel-Dieu in Paris has survived.
